successful project zen moment

Every project has certain key highlights that contribute to its success or failure otherwise.

A good project manager doesn’t always stick to the plan. Since a lot of things can go awry or sideways during the lifetime of an ongoing project, there are times when managers are expected to improvise.

The following are some of the key ingredients that lead to a higher success rate for any number of projects. Have a look…

1. Vigilance During Projects:

Main and side projects hold equal importance. It is only a matter of perspective. Often time, when the main campaign project is running, a lot of other side tasks come up. There are project managers who are either not equipped to handle the extra pressure, or they don’t deem it necessary to focus on side tasks.

Eventually, the project tanks. Yes, it is as simple as that. In retrospect, one can see all the things that went “wrong.” Therefore, remain vigilant, motivated and try to do your best by collaborating with your team members.

2. Don’t Be Afraid to Experiment:

If your projects allow it, go ahead with experimenting with new methodologies. Many project managers were hailed as heroes at the end of the day after they came up with a new process at the supply chain, or proposed a solution to save time and cost altogether.

While you are at it, bear in mind that experiments should not be spontaneous. Calculate everything, assess damages and risks and then make your move.

3. Grow Your Portfolio:

This tip applies to mostly those project managers who are into running side projects. It doesn’t matter whether those small projects are part of the same company, same main project, or whatever. As long as you are doing something extra, you are feeding your resume’. Keep at it.

What’s more important is for you to present those projects to stakeholders whenever the opportunity presents itself. This is also a great way of gaining confidence and building command on all sorts of projects from a long-term overhaul perspective.

4. Don’t do it for Free:

If you’re good at something, never do it for free. If you’re doing something for free you will lack all the motivation and you’ll be left for nowhere, keep this thing in your mind while even doing the side projects, “Money makes the mare go”. That’s what old people used to say, and it still applies to this date.

5. Work On Professional Relationships:

Projects allow us the golden opportunity to work with those high profile people with whom you always wanted to work with this will furnish your skills and your confidence level will highly be upgraded. You’ll attain the characteristics of a champion and you will never have a never-give-up attitude.

Remember that good company has a very positive impact on one’s personality and attitude.

6. Always Have a General Shift Job:

Of all the successful side projects that are now successful flagship projects, the one common thing in those projects was that the people who were doing that had a proper and regular schedule. You may have heard the phrase: “Never put all your eggs in one basket.” It implies that you should have a backup plan at hand when things are running dry.

Freelance project managers usually have multiple income streams running side by side, so they wouldn’t have to worry about relying on one project or client all the time. If you are not doing this already, you should start working on this strategy immediately.

7. Learning to Accept Failures:

Failure is part of the game; it is inevitable. The key thing to remember is learning from mistakes and trying not to repeat them.

If you have failed in a project, you should take notes about the causes that lead to it. Next time, when the opportunity presents itself with a project of a similar nature, you will be equipped to handle the pressure and the challenges in a better way.

Wise people always learn a lot from failures and take it on chin to improve themselves.

There is no magic recipe that will fully ensure complete success for any number of projects. However, working on the aforementioned strategies and improvising as you move along will save you a lot of time, energy, and hassle in the long run.
