What Is the Difference Between Angular and React?

angular-vs-react

When you think of the JavaScript Ecosystem, the names Angular and React come to mind almost instantly since they are two of the most popular Front-end development frameworks. But how do you select between the two?

The main debate among developers only a few years ago was whether to build apps using Angular or React. If you’re a developer or a company owner launching a project and can’t determine which JavaScript framework to employ, this article should assist.

What Exactly is React?

React is a frontend development open-source JavaScript library. It is used to create user interface (UI) components. Because of its component-based and declarative nature, it is straightforward for developers to create interactive and complex user interfaces. Because of the “learn once, write everywhere” philosophy, developers can create rapid and scalable programs for various platforms.

What Exactly is Angular?

Angular is a typescript-based programming framework. It’s a component-based framework for creating scalable web applications. It includes a number of well-integrated libraries and functionalities, including client-server communication, routing, and others. It includes a set of developer tools for creating and scaling projects ranging from single-developer to enterprise-grade systems.

The Distinction Between the Front-End Frameworks Angular and React

Architecture

In terms of architecture, Angular is a full-fledged MVC framework that gives Angular developers complete control over out-of-the-box programming:

  • HTML-based templates;
  • Injection of dependency;
  • Requests for Ajax;
  • Routing;
  • CSS component encapsulation;
  • Possibilities to build shapes, etc.

Unlike Angular React, it is a framework that simply offers the view, and how the Model and Controller are implemented is up to the developer. Only the following functionalities are available out of the box:

  • As an add-on to JavaScript, the XML-like JSX language is used instead of templates;
  • There is no introduction of dependencies;
  • Requests for Ajax;
  • Component testing utilities.

Data Binding

In this case, the two technologies are diametrically opposed.

The two-way binding is used by Angular. For example, changing an interface element (user input) to Angular updates the model’s relaxed state. The interface element changes as the model’s state changes, thus the two-way data binding.

However, React only supports one-way binding. The state of the model is first changed, and then the modification of the interface element is reflected. However, changing the interface element has no effect on the model’s state.

Solutions for Mobile Devices

Both Angular and React provide options for developing mobile apps. In the case of Angular, this is the Ionic framework, which uses the Angular-built Cordova container. The final application, however, is essentially a web application inside a web surfing container.

There is no such thing as a React framework. React Native is a platform for developing native mobile apps.

Learning Convenience

In the case of React, you must first understand JSX, which is simple. Then you must research the routing library, such as react-router v4, and the state management libraries, such as Redux or MobX.

In the case of Angular, several subjects must be investigated, beginning with the fundamentals, such as directives, modules, decorators, components, services, dependency inputs, pipelines, and templates. Following that are more sophisticated subjects like change detection, zones, AoT compilation, and Rx.js.

Syntax

Because Angular is developed in TypeScript, learning the language is required before working with the framework.

React employs JSX, which should be known to native Javascript developers. In contrast, the training time is more straightforward and requires less preparation.

Integration

Angular is a simple framework for developing web apps that do not need any other libraries. Because it is a comprehensive framework, the presented framework is relatively stiff and inflexible.

Building a web application using React alone is often insufficient. It is usually advised to utilize extra libraries. As a result, it is more adaptable and simpler to incorporate into current systems.

If you need web development, consider outsourcing this process. Read more here.

Performance

Angular installs a watcher for each binding to catch all DOM changes. When the view is updated, the new values are compared to the old ones. This may lead to decreased performance in bigger applications.

Because React uses a virtual DOM, when the view changes, the new DOM compares to the virtual DOM and updates appropriately.
